Dear Parent or Guardian,

I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and to express my excitement about working with your student this year. I am looking forward to a fun and productive school year! I believe your student will grow and develop by examining the issues we will cover in their math class. I have two main goals for the course; one of which is to help your students appreciate the ways in which mathematics affects society and will help them in the future. My other main goal is for your student to complete their class well-prepared for their next step as math students. Over the course of the year, we will learn about many integrated pre-calculus topics, covering material that will help us achieve this goal and prepare your student for the college-level mathematics they will see soon!

Students are asked to have the following supplies by Monday, August 18:

  • Note-taking paper - can be loose leaf in a binder or bound in a spiral notebook

  • Graph Paper – can be loose leaf or bound

  • Pencil with Eraser

  • Pens- One black, one blue, and one red

  • A TI-83, TI-84(+), or similar calculator (This is not required, but highly recommended. Students will be able to check these out for use during class and during exams; however, I recommend that they have their own calculator to use at home. This will allow them to practice using the calculator and become familiar with it as it will be advantageous on many portions of tests.)

Also, if you are able and would like to make a contribution to the classroom, the following items are always in need, and donations would be greatly appreciated!!

  • Boxes of facial tissue (such as Kleenex) – most in need!

  • Rolls of paper towels

  • Bottles of anti-bacterial hand sanitizer (such as Purell)

  • White board dry erase markers

  • Colored Printer Paper (any colors!)

Additional information about the class is provided in the syllabus, which will be sent home with your student on Friday, August 8th. Please read the syllabus and sign and return the detachable portion to indicate your understanding and support of the classroom policies. One thing I would like to highlight in the syllabus is the retake policy. In classes such as Algebra II, students may have had the opportunity to consistently “retake” tests and quizzes on which they were unhappy with their grade. Because your student has chosen a high level elective math class, he or she will be held to rigorous standards, and the retakes some students may be used to will not be offered in this class. However, I am dedicated to helping your student, and I feel strongly that your student can and will still be successful with hard work and discipline!

If you ever have any comments, questions, or concerns, I am available for phone calls and meetings. To schedule a meeting, you may contact me via e-mail at huebnerc@rcschools.net. I also look forward to the opportunity to meet with you during Parent Conferences on Tuesday October, 21!

I have attached a few short questions that will help me learn about your student and will help us work together to achieve success! I would very much appreciate your answering the following questions and returning them to me as soon as possible.

I am excited about working with you and your student and am looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

Carissa Clark
